Mr. Isaac Wamute Gathirwa
Deputy Director, Legal and Enforcement
Mr. Isaac Wamute Gathirwa serves as the Deputy Director in the Legal and Enforcement Department at the Commission for University Education. His professional journey is marked by an impressive academic background and extensive qualifications. Currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Law (LLD) at the University of Nairobi, Mr. Gathirwa earned a Master of Laws (Law Governance and Democracy) from the same institution between September 2010 and December 2015. Further enriching his profile, he holds a Master’s in Business Administration (Strategic Management option) from Kenyatta University (January 2006 to December 2009) and an LL.B Degree from Moi University (1998 to 2002). Complementing his academic achievements are Mr. Gathirwa's notable professional qualifications. Notably, he signed the role of Commissioner of Oath and Notary Public with the Kenya’s Judiciary in June 2020 and obtained the C.P.S (K) qualification from KASNEB between January 2012 and May 2017. His commitment to alternative dispute resolution is evident through the Special Course in Alternative Dispute Resolution from The Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (Kenya Branch) in September, 2009.
Furthermore, Mr. Gathirwa has undergone training in Advocacy and Prosecution, receiving a certificate from the International Law Institute-Africa Centre for Legal Excellence in August 2008. Additionally, he completed the Mediation Entry Course with The Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (Kenya Branch) in October 2007. His legal education journey includes a Diploma in Law from the Kenya School of Law (2003 to 2004), culminating in his admission to the bar as an advocate of the High Court of Kenya in 20th May, 2004. With a wealth of experience, Mr. Gathirwa has been a vital part of the Commission for University Education since 1st October, 2012, where he joined as the Chief Legal Officer of the Legal and Enforcement Department. Prior to this, he served as a Senior State Counsel at the Advocates Complaints Commission, State Law Office, from 27th April, 2006, to 30th September, 2012. His legal expertise was also employed at Ngigi Mbugua and Company Advocates from March 2005 to March 2006, where he held the position of Associate Counsel.
