Mr. Gilbert W. Opanga is a highly experienced professional in university education administration, quality assurance, and human resource management. As the Deputy Director Overseeing Standards, Recognition, and Equation of Qualifications at the Commission for University Education (CUE), he brings intellectual pragmatism, practical business acumen, a collaborative team spirit, and exceptional leadership and communication skills to effectively address intricate administrative and management challenges in contemporary organizations.
Throughout his distinguished career, Mr. Opanga has achieved notable milestones, including the development and implementation of employee training and development policies. Under his leadership, Egerton University attained the status of the cleanest and best-maintained public university in Kenya. He successfully revitalized and strengthened the Egerton University Alumni Association, played a pivotal role in ISO: 9001 certifications for JKUAT and CUE, and streamlined administrative procedures at CUE to be vibrant and goal-oriented.
In his current role, Mr. Opanga is responsible for coordinating departmental work plans, budgets, and procurement plans. Additionally, he is involved in developing a Standards, Regulations and review of Guidelines related to Standards, Recognition, and Equation of Qualifications, coordinating workshops, seminars, and external excursions, and leading the continual updating of the directory of recognized accrediting bodies and accredited universities. Previously serving as the Assistant Commission Secretary (Quality Audit and Standards) at CUE, Mr. Opanga coordinated workshops, seminars, and external excursions, facilitated the implementation of Internal Quality Assurance mechanisms, and orchestrated institutional audits in universities. His comprehensive skill set, encompassing academic excellence, practical experience, and effective leadership, has significantly contributed to the elevation of Standards, Recognition, and Equation of Qualifications within the University Education sub-sector.
