Prof. James Onyango Awino (PhD) is a distinguished Kenyan scholar and education leader with a wealth of experience spanning over four decades in teaching, curriculum development, and higher education management.
Prof. Awino is a member of several professional societies, including the Association of Third World Studies, the Inter-religious and International Federation for World Peace.
Throughout his career, he has received multiple professional awards, such as the a Clinical Pastoral Counselling Certificate from the Christian Counselling Institute of Human Relations, Vellore, India, and the prestigious Ambassador of World Peace award from the Interreligious and International Federation for World Peace in 2001, South Korea.
Prof. Awino’s academic journey began with a Bachelor of Divinity and Postgraduate Diploma in Theology from Serampore, India. He then earned a Master of Arts in Education with a focus on Education Foundations, Religious & English Education from Andrews University, USA, and a PhD in Curriculum Development from North-West University, South Africa.
In his extensive professional career, Prof. Awino has held leadership and academic positions in many institutions. He has taught as a part-time Associate Professor at the University of Eldoret, School of Education; Associate Professor at Kabarak University (2013–2018); Dean of Students and Senior Lecturer at Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University of Science & Technology (2010–2013); and Director of Curriculum at the Institute of Professional Studies, Botswana (2009–2010).
He has also served as a Senior Lecturer at the University of Botswana (1995–2008); Lecturer at Moi University, Eldoret (1990–1995); and Tutor in Professional Studies at Mosoriot Teachers’ College (1986–1990). He also served as Head Teacher under the Teachers Service Commission in Kenya from 1971 to 1977.
